New Year Walk: Ticknall and Swarkestone. A linear walk of 7.5 miles (bus one way) taking in two interesting Landmark Trust properties along the way. Meet at Ticknall village car park (by the Village Hall and toilets, postcode DE73 7JX) at 10.15 am - please arrive on time or you'll miss the bus. Bring your bus pass if you have one, also food and drink for the walk, wellies/walking boots and warm clothing. Finish 3pm-ish.

7.30 pm Staffordshire Wildlife Trust talk: Wild Goose Chase by Dave Hollis. Venue: All Saints Church Hall, Branston Road. Cost: adults £2.50, children free.

Meet near the station café as usual (postcode WS7 3PG - check car park closing time), but working on top of the hill, to avoid large wet areas, where we have been working before. Walk to the top of the hill, then turn left, just past the bench with the sleeper semi-circle, and you will see the trailer.

10.00 am
Coton and Mease Valley BCV Walk. A 10-mile walk organised by BCV as part of the National Forest Walking Festival. A fairly level circular walk exploring the southernmost part of Derbyshire and some attractive villages on both sides of the River Mease. Stop for a lunch break along the route. Meet outside St Mary's Church, Coton-in-the-Elms, DE12 8HG (grid ref. SK 243 154). Street parking on Elms Road.

Sat 25th 10.00 am
Washlands to Walton BCV Walk. BCV's annual 12-mile walk, part of the National Forest Walking Festival. A flat circular walk along the Trent to Walton Bridge, lunch stop at Barton Marina, then return along the Trent & Mersey Canal. Lots of Burton Conservation Volunteers projects to view along the way, plus new and established nature reserves close to Burton. Option to return by bus after the first half of the walk. Meet at the Burton Mail Woodland car park (free of charge) accessed from the end of Watson Street (grid ref. SK 250 220).
